"The Scroll" book review: Painful and Disappointing

I had high hopes for this book.  Biblical archaeology, suspense, romance, intrigue... those were my expectations.  What I got was archaeology and biblical history lessons, annoying characters, and appalling lapses in what should have been realistic scenarios.

David Chambers is an arrogant archaeologist.  He verbally attacks everyone he sees-- from his former fiancee to fellow archaeologists to the people in charge of his own safety.  The verbal sparring with colleague Nuri reminds me of two adolescent children.  The dialogue left me wanting to just shout "grow up!" to them.

The project these individuals are working on is so top-secret that high-level security surrounds the whole team.  The authors go to great lengths to describe this in-depth security, but then there are serious breaches resulting in various deaths and injuries-- with no explanation as to how the perpetrator managed to get past all the sophisticated security systems.

I hate to publicly give a bad review to a book, but I have to honestly say that I did not enjoy this book and would not recommend it to anyone.

Although I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review, that fact has obviously not influenced the content of the review.

I would love it if you would rate my book reviews.  To do so, go to either or both of the following:
